Obituary For Madge E. (Kelly) Ryburn-Duncan

Madge E. (Kelly) Ryburn-Duncan, age 89, of Poteau, OK, passed away October 20, 2012, in Poteau. She was born April 29, 1923, at Wister, OK, to Jack and Bessie (McCartney) Kelly. She was one of seven children, having three brothers and three sisters. At age sixteen she married Jesse W. Ryburn who was eighteen. They had three children, Shiela, Buddy and Jesse Lee. They would have been married twenty-one years on August 30, 1960; however, he passed away on the 13th. Day of August, 1960. In 1954, Jesse and Madge were saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in Wister. He soon after became a minister and was the pastor of several churches in Oklahoma. Two years following his death, Madge married Tommy Joe Duncan; they were married eighteen years. In her words, “they were the happiest of my life”. She made her home with her son and daughter-in-law in Poteau. Through illness and the loss of two of her children she still had her sense of humor and was a joy to have around. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children Jesse W. Ryburn; oldest son Buddy Ryburn; daughter Shiela Guthrie; first grandson Tim Sholer; three brothers, Orby, Lloyd (Mike) and Raymond; two sisters, Loraine Mecom and Vera Wigginton.

Madge is survived by her youngest son Jess Ryburn and wife, Wanda, of Poteau; youngest sister Margaret Eagan of Poteau; granddaughters, Sharon Sholer of Poteau, Lea Wells of OKC, Jonikka Ryburn Berglan of Newcastle, OK and Jaymi Ryburn Reaves of Pocola, OK; grandson Michael Sholer of Bethany, OK; her adopted grandchildren Adam and Avo Wilson; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, October 28th. At 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Heavener, OK. Cremation under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau, OK. You may leave an on-line greeting to the family at
