Tommy G. Wright, 81, of Poteau, OK, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009, in Poteau. He was born September 14, 1927, in Mena, AR, to Gaylord and Doshie (McBride) Wright. Tommy married Marlene Tollett on August 4, 1956, in Locksburg, AR. They owned and operated the New York Store, one of the most prominent stores in Poteau’s history, for twenty seven years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Poteau, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 48 years, a brother Enoch Edward Wright; two sisters Martha Pierce and Betty Lovett.
He is survived by a son Donald Edward (Eddy) Wright of Poteau, OK; a daughter Julie Rose and husband Dennis of OKC, OK; a sister, Zetta Drake and husband Jack of Lowell, AR; a grandchild Devin Brakefield and husband James of Wayne, OK; two great grandchildren Bailey and Brody Brakefield; as well as numerous other friends, family members and loved ones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pierce, Bill C. Pierce, Jim DeCamp, Frank Dehart, Joe Renfro, Ron Graves, Jerry Ford and Paul Stottsberry.
A Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Poteau, with Rev. Greg Tener officiating.
