Velma L.(McClain) Woodside, 81, of Calhoun, OK, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in Poteau. She was born August 26, 1927, in Howe, OK, to Frank M. and Gussie May (Kirkland) McClain. She grew up in Calhoun and graduated from Panama High School. She loved cooking and will be missed by many friends and family. She was a member of the First Step of Faith Church in Poteau, where she enjoyed singing and was known for her outgoing personality.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Louis Frank McClain and Timmothy McClain; four brothers, Roy McClain, Charles McClain, Pat McClain and Donald McClain; and three sisters, Margie Shackleford, Katherine Townley and Elizabeth Maddox.
Velma is survived by a son Mike McClain of Bokoshe, OK; a daughter Verna Kay Wagner and husband Dennis, of Cameron, OK; three sister Onice McClain and Roberta Tal, both of Shady Point, OK and Eunice Sullivant of Tulsa, OK; a brother Cleo McClain of Shady Point, two grandchildren, Mitchell McClain, Denise McClure; three great grandchildren, Harvey McClain, Alexa and Connor McClure; daughter-in-law, Jeannie McClain Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other friends, family members and loved ones.
