Annetta Jean Spencer, 47, of Poteau, OK, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009, in Howe, OK.. She was born October 16, 1961, in Tahlequah, OK, to Claude Duane and Diana Jean (Egan) Skaggs. Annetta married John Spencer on December 20, 1980 in Vian, OK. Annetta obtained her BSRN from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and worked as a Health Care Management Nurse, Area Supervisor for the Recertification Unit, and Coordinator for the Gold Star Awards of the Aging Divison all for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Poteau, OK. She was a PIP leader, a 4-H volunteer, active in the Poteau Pirate Tip-In Club, Quarterback Club, FFA Booster Club, presented with an Honorary State FFA Degree, Treasurer of the Baseball Dugout Club, greatly contributed in the efforts of obtaining the new score board at the baseball field and was honored by having her name placed on the dressing facilities at the baseball field. She was the Coordinator for the Stuff the Bus/School Supplies for the Leflore County Schools. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau where she was a Sunday school teacher and a Children’s Church volunteer. She was the loving wife, friend, and soul mate to her husband John for 28 years, a loving mother and parent to her sons, Jeremy and Brent, a rock on which to lean for her loved ones and friends, and a wonderful example of faith in action to everyone. She will truly be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father Claude Duane Skaggs. Annetta is survived by her husband John of the home; two sons, Jeremy Spencer and Brent Spencer both of Poteau; mother Diana Skaggs of Vian, OK; two brothers, Marty Skaggs and Michael Skaggs both of Vian, OK; a sister Michelle Casey of Vian, OK; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and loved ones. Pallbearers will be David White, Weylin Groom, Dr. Bill Willis, David Davis, Ronnie Lum, David Faulkenberry, Jeff Jensen and Hank Harris. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Poteau, OK, with Rev. Phil McGehee, Jerry Williams, Dr. Bill Anderson, Dr. Bill Willis and Wayne Hoffman officiating. The family will greet friends Monday from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. In lieu of flowers, Annetta has asked, that you make donations of Gideon Bibles, First Baptist Church Building Fund or The ALS Association 27001 Agoura Rd, Suite 250 Calabasas Hills. CA 91301.
