John David Gaither, 75, of Rodessa, LA, formerly of Cameron, OK, passed away October 13, 2009, in Rodessa. He was born April 23, 1934, in Arkadelphia, AR, to Ronald Corbitt and Nellie (Carlstead) Gaither. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired iron worker. John was a well known musician in the area. He had a variety of country and gospel bands and shows throughout the years.
John is preceded in death by his parents, a brother M.E. Gaither and three sisters, Dean Alexander, Marie Gaither and Louise Irvin.
He is survived by his wife Carmelita Gaither of the home; seven children, Randy Gaither and wife Sheila of Belize, Central America, Woody Gaither and wife Vickie of Shreveport, LA, Renee York and husband Ronnie of Rodessa, LA, Becky Hicks of Vivian, LA, Terri Inman and husband Terry of Ft. Smith, AR, Steve Middleton and wife Judi of Farmington, AR and Scott Middleton of Ft. Smith, AR; a brother Ronald Gaither of North Little Rock, AR; a sister Coylene Cates of Franklin, TN; seventeen grandchildren, Ben Gaither, Brandon Gaither, Micah Gaither, Johnathan Gaither, Amanda Benge, Gerrod Oliver, Penny Simpler, Matt Gaither, Ashley Greene, Jimmy Greene, Mandy Lummus, Brandy Stratton, Tara Keylon, Traci Riggins, Brandon Middleton, Colby Middleton and Donna Kay Middleton; twenty three great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family members, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Tim Benge, Brandon Gaither, Ben Gaither, Ronnie York, Gerrod Oliver and Steve Middleton.
Services will be at the Ft. Smith National Cemetery, Ft. Smith, AR, Friday, October 16, at 1:00 PM. Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau will be conducting the services.
