Carl “Joe” Griner, 59, of Poteau, OK, passed away November 14, 2009 at his home. He was born August 15, 1950 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Keith Albert and Marjorie Mae (Mauldin) Griner. He taught school for more than thirty years and retired from the Pocola school system.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Griner of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a son Andrew John Griner of Scott AFB, Illinois; mother Marjorie Griner of Sigourney, Iowa; a brother Jeff Griner and wife Vicki of Webster, Iowa, a sister Janet Butler and husband Terry of Iowa City, Iowa; two nieces Katy Griner and Lindsay (Butler) Kramer; two nephews Luke Griner and Jack Butler; as well as many other family, friends, and loved ones, because Joe never met a stranger.
There will be a gathering of friends at his home Wednesday, November 18, at 12:00 noon, to honor his memory. Cremation under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home, Poteau, Oklahoma. The family has requested in lieu of flowers a donation be made in honor of Carl Joe Griner to the Webster Methodist Church, Webster, Iowa, 52355.
