William Douglas Mitchell
William Douglas “Bill” Mitchell, 80, of Wister, OK, passed away December 10, 2009 at his home. He was born January 3, 1929 in Yukon, OK, to Walter and Sophia (Slopman) Mitchell. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and graduated from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. He taught school for more than thirty years. Bill married Ramona LaNell Lee on August 19, 1955 in Greenwood, AR. He was a past Worshipful Master of Poteau Masonic Lodge # 46.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his wife Ramona of the home; three sons, Dennie Lee Brown and wife Rose, Donald Gene Brown and wife Jamie, Bobby Darrel Brown and wife Lora, all of Tahlequah; two daughters, Mona Gayle Mize and husband Curtis of Muskogee, OK, Sharlene “Shon” Mitchell of the home; a brother Walter “Bud” Mitchell of Poteau, OK; two sisters, Betty Gedosh, and Samantha Burt, both of Poteau, OK; four grandchildren, Deanna Haynes, Brian Brown, Christina Franklin and Phoenix “Teddy” Wheeler; five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other family, friends, and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2009 at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jeff Little officiating. Cremation services under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home, Poteau, OK. The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a local angel tree in honor of Bill Mitchell.
