Eugene “Gene” J. Waymire
Eugene “Gene” J. Waymire, 80, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away December 25, 2009, in Pocola, Oklahoma. Gene was born on July 30, 1929, in Heavener, Ok. to Calvin and Mary (Fortner) Waymire. Gene married Goldia Huckaby on March 17, 1950, in Heavener, Oklahoma, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March 2010. Gene was a self-employed plumbing contractor. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a former member of the Heavener Bass Club and won several of the tournaments. Gene was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Poteau and served as a deacon for thirty-eight years at Clearcreek Baptist Church in Mabank, Texas and Independence Baptist Church in Heavener, Oklahoma.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ewing and Bob Waymire.
Gene is survived by his wife, Goldia, of the home; two daughters and son-in-laws, Ann & Martin Wade of Hodgen, Ok. and Vickie & Don Richardson of Pocola, Ok; two sons and daughter-in-laws Jack & Eva Waymire of Clayton, Ok. and Jerry & Terry Waymire of Poteau, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vester “Beck” Waymire & his wife Vera of Mabank, Texas and Odearl Waymire & his wife Ruth Ann also of Mabank, Texas; six sisters, Ruby Wyse of Argyle, Texas, Edna Walkup & husband John of Howe, Ok., Rowena Ushery & husband Clyde, Marcella Bush & husband Freddy, Odella Guinn all of Mesquite, Texas and Wanda Laras & her husband Rick of Quinlan, Texas, and many other loved ones and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brad Becker, Justin Jackson, Mark Richardson, Steven Smittle, Jason Waymire, and Matt Wade. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Andrews, Gary Alexander, Cecil Ollar, Myron Davenport, Sydney Sanders, Darrell Gallegly, Shawn Richardson, and Russ Sanders.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2009, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Bro. Bryan Fields and Bro. Joe Hayden Hall officiating the services.
